Spare
Parts Recommendations and Inventory Models
A
key element in the successful start-up of a new plant is having
an adequate and well organized spare parts inventory. Having
the right spare parts on hand is the life blood of a maintenance
organization, and all too often plants are started with an inadequate
and/or disorganized spare parts inventory. Spare parts lists
are often included with the purchase of new equipment, but these
lists fail to address factors such as spare parts needs beyond
one or two years, and they do not take in to account materials
management principles such as order quantity, lead-time, and
safety stock requirements. Performance Associates has developed
a spare parts database application that has assisted our clients
in predicting the spare parts requirements for plant and mobile
equipment during the normal course of operation. Performance
Associates provides spare parts inventory models for new plants
well before start-up which contain:
-
Recommended
spare parts to be stocked.
-
Links
between spare parts and the equipment that requires them.
-
Supplier
contacts along with verification of pricing and part numbers.
-
Recommended
safety stock quantities.
-
The
type of spare category: insurance or routine.
-
Projected
annual parts usage for routine spares.
-
Forecasts
of lead-times from reorder notice through receiving.
-
Forecasts
of economic order quantity and reorder point for each spare.
-
A
complete menu-driven parts analysis PC database application.
-
Electronic
parts data downloads in various file formats suitable for
upload into your specific materials management system.
